Services

We deliver technical excellence in video games, offering risk assessments, Co-Dev, and Game-Dev to optimize and secure your project's success.

Technical delivery gets difficult before most teams expect it

A product idea can be clear while the path to building it is not. Teams get stuck when risk is unclear, specialist capacity is missing, or the technical foundation cannot keep pace with the ambition.

Uncertainty

You need to understand technical risk, feasibility, performance, or debt before committing to the next stage.

Limited capacity

Your team needs senior technical support for a feature, milestone, platform, or delivery challenge.

A bigger journey

You need a partner who can help shape and deliver a game, product, or platform from idea through release.

Choose the right level of support for the problem in front of you

Actuator helps teams make sense of technical challenges, strengthen delivery, and ship better work. Start with focused insight, bring us alongside your team, or work with us across the Software-Dev journey.

A practical path forward

You do not need to have the engagement fully defined before you talk to us. We help clarify the problem first, then recommend the most useful next step.

1. Start the conversation

Tell us about your product or game, your team, what is difficult, and what you need to achieve.

2. Find the right shape

Together we identify whether focused insight, Co-Dev, or Software-Dev best fits the problem and stage.

3. Move forward together

Begin with clear priorities, practical responsibilities, and senior technical support where it can make the greatest difference.

What you get

Support shaped around the work that will make the greatest difference to your project.

Clear technical direction

  • Assess technical risk, options, and priorities against your project goals.
  • Turn the findings into practical next actions your team can use.
  • Give stakeholders a clearer basis for the next decision.
Clear technical direction

  • Turn the findings into practical next actions your team can use.
  • Give stakeholders a clearer basis for the next decision.
Hands-on delivery support
  • Add senior engineering judgement to architecture, features, performance, systems, integrations, quality, or release.
  • Work directly on the implementation, not just the recommendation.
  • Focus effort where it will create the most useful progress.
Stronger foundation
  • Improve the code, process, and technical choices future delivery depends on.
  • Reduce avoidable friction and debt before they slow the team down.
  • Build team knowledge that continues to be useful after the engagement.
From insight to implementation
  • Start with a focused assessment when you need clarity first.
  • Move into direct delivery when the priority is getting work done.
  • Work with one partner from insight through implementation, while keeping the outcome in view.
Built around your project
  • Shape the engagement around your problem, scope, constraints, and project stage.
  • Scale support from a focused piece of work to an end-to-end partnership.
  • Keep communication clear, so progress, decisions, and responsibilities stay visible.

What success looks like

You leave the engagement with less uncertainty, more momentum, and a credible path toward the result your project needs.

Know what to do next

The technical problem is understood and the next investment is grounded in evidence and priorities.

Make meaningful progress

The right people are focused on the work most likely to reduce risk or create product value.

Move toward victory

Your team has the direction, capability, and foundation needed to reach the next milestone and keep going.

What Actuator did

Actuator provided programming and Steam API support, Steam Deck and macOS platform testing, and performance testing with recommendations for the game's release.

Challenge

Before moving from a vertical slice to full production, Abandoned Sheep needed confidence that its planned levels, assets, visuals, effects, and gameplay systems would run smoothly across consumer PCs, including Steam Deck.

Approach

Actuator conducted a short, intensive analysis of the Unity vertical slice with access to its source code and assets. We used Unity profiling and frame-debugger tools and RenderDoc to investigate known concerns, assess early levels, and identify performance-intensive areas.

Outcome

Actuator delivered a technical analysis report that identified graphics and rendering as the main contributor to overall performance pressure and documented its causes. We then discussed recommended methods, expected impact, developer questions, and value-versus-effort estimates for potential next steps.

Software

Sky Kelpie's autonomous-mustering work uses drones, computer vision, and livestock-herding algorithms to support practical stockmanship in real paddock conditions.

What Actuator did

Actuator R&D expanded Sky Kelpie's existing drone-training simulation into an autonomous cattle-mustering system for consumer-grade, off-the-shelf DJI hardware.

Challenge

The team needed to determine whether livestock-herding algorithms developed in simulation could work with real animals, terrain, flight hardware, and field conditions - not just in a controlled demonstration.

Approach

Actuator adapted the simulation to observed DJI drone behaviour; developed custom YOLO cattle detection, terrain-aware RRT pathfinding, AI virtual-stick control, MQTT system communication, and flight replay and data tools; and integrated the autonomy pipeline with DJI hardware and the DJI Cloud API.

Outcome

Trials in south-east and north-west Queensland demonstrated that autonomous livestock movement was technically achievable under certain conditions. The platform could locate a mob, drive it in the required direction, and settle it in the paddock.

Constraints

The system had to work within the limits of third-party hardware, controls, sensors, communications, and field operations, while accounting for variable animal behaviour, terrain, environmental conditions, livestock welfare, and practical safety and regulatory requirements.

Questions about our services

Which service is right for us?

If the main need is understanding risk or deciding what to do, start with Insight Reports. If you have a team and a defined technical challenge, Co-Development may fit. If you need a broader delivery partner, explore Full Development or Full Game Development.

Can we start with a small engagement?

Yes. A focused assessment, technical challenge, or milestone can be a useful first step. We shape the engagement around the problem rather than requiring a large commitment upfront.

Do you work with existing teams?

Yes. Co-development is designed to integrate with an existing team, codebase, process, and ownership model. We can also support existing products through full development engagements.

What happens when we contact you?

We listen to the project context, ask focused questions, and help identify the clearest next step. You do not need a finished brief before starting the conversation.
